Why you should add Lefkas to your sailing itinerary

Greece is known for its breathtaking landscape, culture and deep blue seas. If you haven’t already visited, it’s an absolute must to add to the bucket list. We offer sailing holidays all over the Ionian seas.
One of our favourite places to visit has to be Lefkas, or ‘Lefkada’ in Greek. A stunning small Island joined to the mainland of Greece by a Causeway, with unspoiled beaches, wild olive groves, and delicious cuisine. Although Lefkas is one of the few Greek Islands that can be accessed by car, it has not been overrun by tourists. An idyllic setting and a laid-back approach to daily life, makes for a peaceful and relaxing visit. Perfect for a few days to unwind and soak up the island’s natural beauty.
Places to see visit in Lefkas
Egremni Beach is considered as one of the finest beaches in Greece, a multi-awarded white sand beach located in the south-west of the island. Unfortunately, in 2015, it was badly affected by a terrible earthquake, wiping out the footpath down to the beach. Although work has since been done to restore the losses, the access is more restricted than before.
Fortunately, the beach is still accessible by boat and is worth the visit.
Agios Nikita Village is the only village at sea-level on the west coast of the island. The village is at easy reach to many of the island’s most beautiful beaches. The streets are lined with minimarkets and lovely seafood restaurants and bars.
Just outside of the Nidri Village, Nidri Waterfalls are surrounded by beautiful, tropical scenery. The falls reach a height of 12metres, and the pool below is safe to swim in!
Vassiliki, often referred to as a ‘windsurfers paradise’, is located to the south of Lefkas Island and is a popular place to visit amongst tourists. Vassiliki beach stretches across the length of the town and is known for its high winds, making it ever so attractive for surfers. The beach has been recognised as one of Europe’s top surfing destinations and plays host to an annual watersport’s festival. Fantastic for those looking for a taste of adventure.
Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni is the only monastery still in residence on the island and boasts incredible views over the town, beaches and beaches. Steeped in history, the monastery is the most significant in Lefkas and is deemed as the ‘protector of the island’. It was originally dedicated to Artemis, the goddess of hunting.
On your trip you can explore the church, the courtyard with a stunning garden, museums, manuscripts, a library, a small zoo and a tavern.
