Lefkas Island is well connected to the rest of the world! But is not always that easy to find out the best way to get to us!
How to get to our base in Nidri, Lefkada
The vast majority of Nisos Yacht Charter sailing and villa clients opt to fly from the UK direct to Preveza (Aktion) Airport, which is on the mainland of Greece. There are flights on various days of the week from Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Bristol, Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow and flights start in April and run through until the end of October.
Our charters tend to start and finish on Sundays. We can sometimes accommodate different days subject to availability, so please do ask us.
At present the following flights to and from Preveza from the UK can be booked now:
There are more flights into Corfu from many European cities than Preveza, so if Preveza is not a viable option then this should be considered to be the next best option. To transfer from Corfu, you have the following options to get to Lefkas:
1. Fly into Preveza from Corfu with www.skyexpress.gr and then let us arrange a taxi for you to our base.
2. Taxi to the ferry port in Corfu town (10 minutes) and catch one of the regular ferries to Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland. The ferry journey is about 1.5 to 2 hours and costs in the region of Euros 15pp each way. Ferries run pretty much every 1.5 hours.

Once you have arrived at Igoumenitsa you have 3 options to get to the Nisos base at Nidri:
1. Bus from Igoumenitsa to Nidri. See here for the timetable (it is fairly limited): BUS TIMETABLE
2. Taxi from Igoumenitsa to Nidri (Nisos Base). We can arrange this for you. Current cost is about Euros 175 for a taxi and takes about 1.5 hours.
3. Car rental from Green Motion (located just outside the ferry terminal at Igoumenitsa) – http://www.greenmotion.gr/ or telephone for one way options: 0030 2665093454. Green Motion has a depot in Nidri near to our base if you would like to do a one way rental. If returning back via Corfu we strongly recommend looking into keeping the car for the full week as this may work out cheaper. Free parking is available at the Nisos base.
Another popular option is to fly into the neighbouring island of Kefalonia and then catch the ferry from Fiskardho on the north of Kefalonia to Lefkas Island. A word of warning though… if it is very windy there is a small chance that the ferry will not run.

We can arrange a taxi to meet you at the ferry terminal at Vasiliki on Lefkas to bring you to our base.
There is now a new motorway linking Athens to the Ionian, which has dramatically cut down the driving time to 4.5 hours, which along with the numerous flights into Athens from around the world, has made this route much more popular.
Personal Taxi
We can arrange for a taxi to meet your flight into Athens to bring you to our base. Current rates (2025) are about Euros 520 for a taxi (4 passengers), Euros 630 – private van (8 passengers) and Euros 880 for a 17 seater coach.
Public Bus Service
You could also take the very good bus service from Kiffisus Bus Station in central Athens to Lefkas Bus station. This journey takes about 5 hours, but is scenic and the buses are very modern and comfortable. Timetable and tickets can be booked here: Athens to Lefkas Bus Timetable
Once you arrive at Lefkas Bus Station we can arrange for a taxi to meet you and bring you to our base. Transfer time is just 20 minutes and costs about Euros 40 for a taxi (4 passengers).
Domestic flight from Athens to Preveza
www.aegeanair.com operate domestic flights to Preveza on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. We can arrange for a taxi to meet you at Preveza Airport if required.
Self Drive
You can also rent a car in Athens and self drive to Lefkas. Rates vary widely depending on the season and car size, and many deals can be found online. Due to the high one way car rental fees, it often works out cheaper to rent the car for the sailing duration and leave it at our base whilst you are out sailing.
Transavia operates a Saturday evening flight direct to Preveza, which with an overnight stay in a local hotel works well with the Nisos Sunday turnaround day. See www.transavia.com

If you would like to travel to Lefkas a few days before the charter, then Transavia operates flights to Preveza on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday in addition to the above Sunday flight.
Easy Jet operates a direct flight on Sundays from Berlin, Tegel, which fits with the normal turnaround day for Nisos Yacht Charter.

Direct flights from Rome (FCO) to Preveza are available on Saturdays. If the yacht is not available for you until the Sunday, then you will need to overnight in a local hotel for the Saturday night and join us on Sunday for your sailing holiday.
On the return, you can bring the yacht back late afternoon on the Saturday for your return flight home to Rome.

Flights from Helsinki are on Mondays and Saturdays, so if you are wanting to charter with Nisos Yacht Charter and we can’t accommodate a Saturday start, you will need to stay locally in a hotel for the first night. See Finnair
There are no direct flights to Preveza from Ireland currently, but don’t let this put you off! The 2 main options to consider are:
1. Fly to the UK (Gatwick or Stansted) on the Saturday, overnight at an airport hotel then catch one of the many flights direct to Preveza on the Sunday morning. See here for the UK_Preveza flight options: UK_PVK Flights
We will arrange your transfer from Preveza airport to our base which takes 35 minutes.
On the return, you can usually make it back to Ireland in one day.
2. Fly from Ireland to Corfu on the Saturday. Overnight in Corfu, then on the Sunday after a leisurely breakfast, catch one of the many ferries to Igoumenitsa on the mainland. The ferry crossing is 1.5 to 2 hours and costs about Euros 11pp as a foot passenger. Once in Igoumenitsa we will arrange for a taxi to meet you and bring you to our base. The taxi journey is about 1.5 hours and costs Euros 150 (max 4 passengers). A minibus can be arranged for larger parties at a higher cost.
It is all quite straightforward and an enjoyable journey.
Whilst the yachts are fully insured against damage or loss of equipment, it is vital that all those travelling have appropriate personal travel insurance.
This covers such things as cancellation, ill health, loss of personal belongings etc.
