Bareboat Charters in the Ionian
Exploring the Ionian Islands, Greece on your own yacht, with no restrictions on when and where you can go, is the ultimate way to spend your sailing holiday. This is what bareboat sailing is all about.
Your bareboat charter starts here
You pick up the yacht from our base at Nidri on the east coast of Lefkas Island, and after a thorough briefing on the safety aspects and operation of the yacht and a briefing on the sailing area, you are free to leave. The majority of our clients leave our base on the day of arrival. Our bareboat sailing holidays all start and end on Sundays in the season, which runs from the beginning of May through to the end of October.
We are located close by to Meganissi Island, so your first and last nights can be spent in the delightful villages of Vathi or Spartachori for example.
Each day you can explore the numerous stunning bays for lazy lunches, swimming and general messing about on the water, before having an exhilarating sail to your next destination on a different island. You can spend the night wherever you wish. There are very few restrictions in this beautiful part of the world. You may wish to anchor off in a deserted bay and cook onboard, or head into a stunning traditional Greek village and enjoy the hospitality of the friendly local tavernas.
You can keep in touch with us by VHF or mobile phone throughout the week if required, to get weather updates and itinerary ideas. At the end of the holiday you return the yacht to base on the morning of departure.
In a one or two week holiday you can explore the islands of Lefkas, Meganissi, Kefalonia, Kastos, Ithica and Kalamos. If you wish to go further afield the Amvraki Gulf, Corfu and Paxos to the north are all within reach.
What our clients say
What qualifications do I need to go bareboat?
The skipper of the boat needs to have an International Certificate of Competence (“ICC”) or other national equivalent. If you have sufficient experience but no sailing qualifications then you can sit an ICC assessment in a day at an RYA training school.
If you have an RYA Day Skipper practical qualification (or above), then you can obtain an ICC from the RYA for a small fee and completing the online application. See here: RYA ICC Application form
See here for more information on Qualifications required for chartering.
What if we need assistance whilst out on bareboat charter?
If at any time during your trip you need assistance then we are on call 24 hours a day. We have a fast Atlantic 21 RIB “Ira” on standby, and can be with you very quickly if required. We will always come to you and never ask you to return to base. We do like to hear from you if you have any problems, even if they are small and not causing you any difficulties so that we can carry out any repairs during the week, so as to keep on top of the yacht maintenance. This is always done with minimal impact on your holiday – and always with a smile!
What is the cruising area?
Our cruising area stretches from Poros on the South East of Kefalonia in the South to the top of Corfu in the north. We ask that you try and avoid sailing around the west coast of Lefkas and Kefalonia, due to the lack of shelter and safe anchorages. This really is a beautiful area to sail. No tides, negligible currents and very little commercial shipping make this a very safe and relaxing area to sail with family and friends.
We can advise on itineraries and places to visit to suit all tastes.
