Skippered Charters In The Ionian
For those who want to learn to sail or just have someone do the hard work for them, then why not take one of our skippers on board with you?
Our professional skippers have lived and worked in the area for a number of years, and know all the best places to visit so that you get the most out of your precious holiday. The skipper will tailor the itinerary to fit with your desires and needs to ensure you have the very best Ionian sailing experience.
If you want to learn to sail, then the skipper could have you sailing the boat on your own within the week, with the skipper keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. The skipper will require their own berth on the boat and will sleep onboard. We realise that this is your holiday, and the skippers are very conscious that you have your own time together and try and factor in your desires and wishes as much as possible. Alternatively, you may wish to just relax – which is absolutely fine! On a crewed charter in the beautiful Ionian waters, there really is no finer way to relax!
A typical day will include sailing to a new destination every evening, with a good lunch stop for snorkelling and swimming in beautiful bays. You will visit a new village every evening.
Is this holiday suitable for children?
YES! Very much so! It is the perfect holiday for all ages! There is so much to do and see, and the children can be involved in all aspects of sailing the yacht. It is a fantastic opportunity to take the helm of a sailing yacht and learn how to sail. Once moored up, then the swimming is generally extremely safe and each yacht comes with its own dinghy and outboard engine which the older children will be taught how to use. We can also put Stand Up Paddle (SUPs) on board, which are a brilliant way to explore your new home for the evening!
Why choose the Ionian Islands for your perfect skippered sailing holiday?
The Ionian Islands are the perfect destination for a sailing holiday. The seas are generally flat, so sea sickness is rarely an issue, which makes for very comfortable sailing and ideal for those who have never holidayed on the water before. The islands that form the Ionian, are also nice and close to each other, so the time spent out at sea can be as short or as long as is suitable. This makes it ideal for children of all ages.
The winds in the Ionian are not too strong! We do not suffer from the very strong Meltemi winds which you will find in more eastern sailing destinations in Greece. We typically have good sailing winds of F3 and F4 in the afternoons, and mornings and evenings/night times are generally very calm, which is important for when swimming, relaxing, paddle boarding and snorkelling are as important as the sailing itself!
Which yacht to choose for your skippered charter in the Ionian?
This really depends on your budget and the number of people in your group. We can cope with groups of up to 8 maximum. If you want the ultimate in comfort then our wonderful Bavaria C57 “Juverna” with dedicated skippers quarters is the ideal yacht for your Ionian adventure.
As well as the dedicated skippers’ quarters (with separate deck entrance), Juverna has 3 large double cabins, 3 bathrooms and a large saloon, which can sleep an additional 2 people. Juverna also has air conditioning throughout.
With her large swim deck, ample sunbathing areas, BBQ and luxurious cockpit, Juverna is a wonderful yacht to holiday on.
If “Juverna” is too big for you, then don’t worry, we have many other yachts available for you to chose from and to fit most budgets. We like to use yachts with 2 bathrooms (heads) on board for skippered charters and don’t forget, the skipper will need their own cabin!
What our clients say
Want to see our yachts?
If the budget doesn’t stretch to Juverna or the group size doesn’t warrant this size of yacht, then we have plenty more fabulous options to consider. Just remember you will need one cabin for the skipper and ideally it is preferable to have two bathrooms (heads) onboard for additional privacy.
Typical Skippered Charter itinerary
Your skipper will be in touch with you prior to the holiday to start planning your itinerary. In a one week skippered charter holiday, it is better to probably stay in the South Ionian (Lefkada, Meganissi, Kefalonia, Ithica, Kastos and Kalamos), but it is also possible to travel north to Paxos and Anti Paxos. The itinerary will be devised with your desires in mind, but also may need to be altered due to wind direction and sea state. A very typical route is as follows:
Sunday night (day of arrival)
The Karnio, Little Vathi, Meganissi Island
Monday night
Kioni, Ithica Island
Tuesday night
Pollis Bay, Ithica Island
Wednesday night
Fiskardo, Kefalonia Island
Thursday night
Kastos, Kastos Island
Friday night
Sivota, Lefkada
Saturday evening
Return to the Nisos base in Nidri. You can stay onboard the yacht the Saturday night and vacate Sunday morning at 9am. You can use the hotel facilities until your transfer back home.
