Flotilla Sailing In Greece

Greece was the original birth place of flotilla sailing.  It makes sailing holidays accessible to all and brings lots of newly qualified skippers into the chartering world.

Sailing with the support of a lead crew to keep you safe and in the company of like minded people, all in a beautiful sailing area is what flotilla sailing is all about.

The Ionian in particular is very popular for flotilla sailing, as it is a relatively safe sailing area, perfect for families, children and newly qualified skippers.

There are many companies running traditional flotillas in the Ionian each offering different things.  We at Nisos Yacht Charter have our own version of the flotilla, called "Assisted Bareboat Charters".

It differs from the traditional flotillas in the following ways:

 - all skippers must hold sailing qualifications (minimum Day Skipper or ICC);

 - yachts are prepared to bareboat standard;

 - a smaller number of boats on the programme.  A maximum of 8 and usually about 5 plus the lead boat;

 - a very professional and personal service, such as personal daily briefings onboard your yacht every morning at a time that suits you;

 - no evening parties or group meals.  You decide where you eat and when and not where the Lead Crew want to go;

 - no enforced group socialising (although it is naturally a social holiday and easy to socialise with other groups IF you wish);

 - with a small number of boats to look after, the lead crew encourage you to stay out and enjoy the afternoon Ionian winds, and do not force you to come in early;

 - the Nisos fleet of yachts are not your typical charter fleet.  High specifications, immaculately clean and prepared, no advertising on the hulls/booms and things not usually found on charter fleets, such as bow thrusters, chart plotters, extra length anchor chain and Rocna anchors;

 - every night away from base - that is all 7 nights in a one week holiday and not the normal 5 nights you get with all other flotillas.  This is a massive advantage!
