The South Ionian Regatta

The South Ionian Regatta takes place annually on the third Thursday of September.  The event has been organised by the Vliho Yacht Club on Lefkas Island for many years, and is one of the highlights of the summer season in the Ionian for charterers and locals alike.  The event is open to all, although if you are entering on a charter boat, you must inform the charter boat operator so that appropriate insurance can be arranged.  Some charter companies will not allow their boats to compete, so do check before you book a boat if you are looking to compete!

It is a great fun race starting in the Meganissi Straights (about 300m south of Tiglia Island), heading south around Arkoudi Island (to starboard) and then heading back north finishing in the entrance to Sivota Bay.  The regatta culminates in a party in Sivota which is not to be missed, with live music from the world renowned band "Ejukatid Porc", prize giving and a great atmosphere.

The price for entry is about euros 20.

From 2008 the Regatta was extended into a 4 day Rally with 3 additional races added in the preceeding days.  Entry into this is also through the Vliho Yacht Club.
