International Certificate of Competence ("ICC") The ICC is recognised throughout the European Union as your ability to safely skipper a yacht. If you have a minimum of RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification you can apply for an ICC from the RYA by sending off a completed form to them, with a copy of your RYA certificate. The ICC also has the benefit of giving you a qualification in handling a power boat upto 10m in length (even if you have never driven one...!). So, if you intend to charter a yacht on a bareboat or flotilla basis, or hire a RIB (up to 10m), then it really is worth getting hold of an ICC now. If you are a member of the RYA then it is even FREE! if you are not a member, the cost is £40 - so it is worth joining the RYA in any case - and you get a quartely glossy magazine through the post and a membership card to impress your friends with. New for 2010 season This season we are introducing a new design of tender to the Nisos fleet. They have been specifically designed and manufactured for us, so they incorporate the key things needed and avoid the things that are not needed! They are RIB style tenders of 2.7m in length, and made out of Hypalon material, which is significantly stronger than the cheaper PVC material commonly used now for tenders. PVC deteriorates rapidly in the intense UV of the Greek waters whilst Hypalon is much more UV resistant and can be easily repaired, whereas PVC is very difficult to repair properly. We will be putting larger outboard engines on these new tenders (Mariner 3.5hp 4 stroke), which will give them sufficient shove to get up on the plane. Of course being a RIB design, means that there will be no more soggy feet, and will provide a much more stable base if relaying kedge anchors etc. There will also be a secured seat inside, so no more lost seats!! These tenders/outboards will be available as an upgrade from the standard supplied tenders at a cost of £200 per week, on a first come first served basis. We now have a fleet of sit on Sea Kayaks for rental from our base on Lefkas. If you are chartering a yacht over 40ft in length, you can hire one of these to take with you. They are light in weight and can take up to 91kg. Great for kids and adults alike. They have a back support, bottle holder and area with webbing to secure your belongings.
The rental fee is £50 per week. Contact us if you would like to add one to your Ionian yacht charter.

Qualifications Required UPDATE |

From May 2010, we will require each boat going out on either bareboat charter or Assisted Bareboat Charter to have at least one person on board with an International Certificate of Competence ("ICC") or an RYA Day Skipper (or above) practical and theory qualification. If you do not have a suitable qualification but would like to bareboat charter, then the easiest way is to obtain an ICC. This can be done via assesment around the UK in as little time as a few hours. Please call us for advice. This is in order to comply with the laws applied in Greek waters which are tightening up this winter in the Lefkas area. Rowan Carver |
